Färgreflektion refers to the phenomenon where light bounces off a surface and the color of the light that is reflected is perceived by the observer. When white light, which is composed of all colors of the visible spectrum, strikes an object, certain wavelengths of light are absorbed by the object's material, while others are reflected. The color we see is determined by the wavelengths that are not absorbed and are instead reflected back to our eyes. For example, a red apple appears red because its surface absorbs most of the wavelengths of light and reflects predominantly the red wavelengths.

The nature of the surface plays a significant role in färgreflektion. Smooth surfaces, like mirrors, tend to reflect light specularly, meaning the light rays bounce off at the same angle they hit, preserving the image. Rough surfaces, conversely, scatter light diffusely in many directions. While diffuse reflection still involves the absorption and reflection of specific wavelengths, it doesn't form a clear image. The texture and composition of a material, including pigments and structural properties, dictate which wavelengths are absorbed and which are reflected, thus defining the perceived color. Variations in lighting conditions can also alter the perceived färgreflektion, as the incident light itself might be colored or have a different intensity.
