fyrpostersängar
Fyrpostersängar are a type of traditional Swedish meadow. The name translates literally to "four-poster meadow" or "four-poster hayfield." This refers to a distinctive method of haymaking and storage. In a fyrpostersäng, large wooden posts, typically four in number, were erected in the meadow. These posts served as supports for a framework, often made of smaller branches or poles, upon which newly cut hay was spread to dry and cure. This elevated drying process allowed for better air circulation, preventing the hay from rotting or becoming moldy, especially in damp conditions. It also helped protect the hay from ground-dwelling pests.
The system of fyrpostersängar was particularly common in regions of Sweden with a history of extensive hay
