Frostvrijtechnologie, often translated as frost-free technology, refers to a system designed to prevent the formation and accumulation of frost within appliances, primarily refrigerators and freezers. This technology works by circulating air within the appliance to keep the internal surfaces dry and at a consistent temperature, thereby inhibiting the freezing of moisture.

The core mechanism typically involves a fan that continuously blows air over the evaporator coils. These coils are responsible for cooling the interior of the appliance. In frost-free systems, the fan ensures that the cold air is evenly distributed, preventing localized cold spots where frost would readily form. Periodically, the system activates a defrost cycle. During this cycle, a heating element gently warms the evaporator coils, melting any accumulated frost.
