Financial aspects include upfront investment covering equipment, premises, and stock; ongoing royalties typically based on turnover; contributions to national or regional marketing funds; and potential renewal or termination clauses and territorial rights.

In a legal and regulatory context, franchising is governed by contract and commercial law; in France, pre-contractual information obligations (DIP) apply, and European Union and other jurisdictions have varying disclosure and anti-trust rules.
