fragielere

Fragielere is the comparative form of the adjective fragil, used in Norwegian and some related Scandinavian language varieties to mean “more fragile.” The form reflects a lineage from Latin fragilis, through French fragile, into the Scandinavian languages. It belongs to a subset of adjectives that form comparatives with the suffix -ere.

Usage and register vary. In everyday Norwegian, speakers often prefer phrases like mer skjør or mer skjøre to express higher fragility. Fragielere appears more commonly in technical, academic, or formal writing, and in contexts where a precise gradation of fragility is relevant, such as materials testing, structural assessment, or ecological analysis. It can also appear in bilingual or translation work to reflect direct linguistic heritage.

Contexts and meanings. The term covers physical fragility (for example, brittle glass or ceramics), structural fragility (load-bearing components, infrastructure under stress), and biological or ecological fragility (vulnerable populations, fragile ecosystems). Metaphorically, fragilere can describe vulnerabilities in economic systems, policy frameworks, or social structures when these are susceptible to disruption under stress or change.

Examples. In Norwegian technical prose: Dette materialet blir fragilere ved gjentatt belastning. In Dutch-tinged or cross-language usage: The vase is fragielere than the other one. In Norwegian everyday speech, however, nonliteral expressions like “mer skjør” are more common.
