formálnom

Formálnom is a grammatical form of the Slovak adjective formálny, which means formal or ceremonial. It is the locative singular masculine/neuter form, used with nouns in the locative case after prepositions that govern that case.

In usage, formálnom appears with masculine or neuter nouns in the singular, for example v formálnom prostredí (in a formal environment) or v formálnom štýle (in a formal style). For feminine nouns in the locative singular, the corresponding form is formálnej, as in vo formálnej spoločnosti (in a formal company/society). In the plural locative, the form is formálnych, as in v formálnych prostrediach or na formálnych stretnutiach (in formal environments or at formal meetings).

Formálnom contrasts with the adverb form formálne, which means "formally" and is used to describe actions rather than noun phrases. The adjective form formálny underlies both uses, with formálne serving as the adverb and formálnym as the instrumental singular, and different endings applying across cases and genders.

Etymologically, formálny derives from Latin formal-is through other European languages, and it is widely used in Slovak to denote propriety, decorum, or standard ways of conduct or presentation in social, academic, business, and ceremonial contexts.
