Formowanie is the process of giving something a particular form or structure through deliberate shaping actions. In Polish, formować means to form or shape, and formowanie refers to the ongoing process of doing so.

In manufacturing and engineering, formowanie refers to deformation-based shaping operations that reshape material without removing it. Common examples include forging, rolling, extrusion, deep drawing, bending, and stamping. These forming processes rely on plastic deformation and are influenced by temperature, strain rate, friction, and tooling design. The method chosen affects material properties, dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and production costs, as well as limitations such as tool wear and size constraints.

In natural and social sciences, formowanie describes the development or shaping of systems, structures, or behaviours. It can refer to the formation of landforms, the organization of institutions, or the cultivation of skills, habits, and character.
