Formação, or formação with the diacritic, is a Portuguese noun with several related meanings centered on the idea of forming, development, or organization. The variant formacao (without the accent) appears in informal contexts or where diacritics are omitted, such as in computer systems or older texts. The term derives from Latin formatio.
