The fluyt, also spelled fluite or flyboat, was a type of Dutch sailing ship developed in the early 17th century. It was specifically designed for efficient cargo transport and was characterized by its distinctive hull shape. Fluyts had a narrow stern and a broad, rounded bow, which gave them excellent maneuverability and allowed them to carry a large cargo volume relative to their size. They typically had three masts and a relatively small crew for their tonnage, making them very cost-effective to operate.
