Fluxbalancering is the practice of regulating and distributing the flow of a resource within a system to maintain stability and performance. The term is used in several fields to describe actions that counteract imbalances between supply and demand, capacity and usage, or inflows and outflows of material, energy, data, or people.

In energy systems, fluxbalancering involves balancing electricity generation with consumption in real time to maintain grid frequency and reliability, using tools such as reserves, demand response, and energy storage. In information technology and networks, it refers to distributing workloads or traffic across servers, paths, or data centers to avoid congestion and ensure service levels. In biology, metabolic flux balance analysis seeks to predict or constrain the flow of metabolites through a network of biochemical reactions under steady-state assumptions.

Techniques commonly used include real-time monitoring of flux indicators, forecasting of demand or production, and optimization-based control that determines how to adjust resources. Operational measures can include ramping generation, switching network routes, autoscaling compute resources, throttling, or energy storage charging and discharging. Market-based signals and contracts can align incentives for participants to provide balancing services, while control-theory approaches automate rapid responses.

Key challenges are the accuracy of measurements and models, latency between observation and action, cost trade-offs, and regulatory or interoperability constraints.
