A fließkegel, also known as a flow cone or slump cone, is a device used in civil engineering and construction to measure the workability or consistency of fresh concrete. It is essentially a truncated cone with specific dimensions, typically 150 mm diameter at the top, 100 mm diameter at the bottom, and a height of 300 mm.

The test is performed by filling the cone with a sample of fresh concrete in three layers, each compacted with a standard tamper rod. Once filled, the cone is carefully lifted, allowing the concrete to slump under its own weight. The amount of slump, measured in millimeters from the original height of the cone to the average height of the slumped concrete, indicates the concrete's fluidity. A greater slump signifies a more workable or fluid mix, while a smaller slump indicates a stiffer, less workable mix.

The fließkegel test is a simple, quick, and cost-effective method for assessing concrete consistency, which is crucial for ensuring proper placement, compaction, and ultimately, the durability and strength of the hardened concrete. It helps in quality control and in adjusting the water content or admixtures in the concrete mix to achieve the desired workability for specific applications.
