fibrosum

Fibrosum is a term that appears in several domains to denote fibrous materials or, less commonly, a taxonomic name. It does not refer to a single, widely recognized entity.

In biology, Fibrosum has occasionally been used as a genus name or as a species epithet in historic classifications, but no current, valid taxon carries the name. As a result, its biological usage is largely historical or provisional.

In materials science and biomedical engineering, Fibrosum is used as a descriptive label for fibrous composites or scaffold-like materials meant to resemble natural fibrous tissues. Such materials typically consist of fibers reinforced by a matrix and engineered for high strength in one direction, light weight, and porosity.

Common fiber types include cellulose derivatives, collagen, silk, and various synthetic polymers. Manufacturing methods such as electrospinning, melt-spinning, or laminate processing are used to align fibers and control pore structure.

Applications span tissue engineering scaffolds, wound dressings, and reinforcement in lightweight composites. Performance depends on fiber orientation, fiber–matrix adhesion, and processing conditions. Because Fibrosum is not a standardized term, its meaning varies by field and author.
