The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) is the international governing body for motorsport and the federation for mobility and road safety. It was founded in 1904 as the Association Internationale des Automobiles Clubs Reconnus (AIACR) and adopted its current name in 1946 after World War II. The FIA is headquartered in Paris, France, and works with national automobile clubs and motorist organizations around the world.

As the global authority on motorsport, the FIA sanctions and regulates international competition, drafts technical and sporting regulations, and oversees licensing and eligibility for drivers, teams, and events. Major FIA-sanctioned championships span multiple disciplines, including the Formula One World Championship, the FIA World Endurance Championship, the FIA World Rally Championship, the FIA World Rallycross Championship, and the FIA Formula E Championship. The organization’s governance structure includes a general assembly, a World Motor Sport Council, and various commissions, with member clubs providing input on rules, safety standards, and policy directions.
