Learnability is crucial for new users to be able to perform basic tasks the first time they encounter the design. Efficiency allows experienced users to perform tasks quickly. Memorability ensures that users can re-establish proficiency after a period of not using the system. Error prevention and recovery are about minimizing the occurrence of errors and helping users recover from them gracefully when they do happen. Finally, user satisfaction measures how pleasant the experience of using the system is.

Usability is not the same as user experience (UX), though they are closely related. Usability is a component of UX, focusing on the practical aspects of interaction, while UX encompasses the entire emotional, cognitive, and aesthetic response to a product or service. Poor usability can lead to frustration, abandonment of the product, and a negative overall user experience. Therefore, in design and development processes, usability testing and evaluation are essential steps to ensure a product meets user needs and expectations.
