feldsitasit

Feldsitasit is a rare mineral belonging to the feldspar group, which includes minerals with the general formula (K,Na,Ca)(Al,Si)4O8. Feldsitasit was first discovered in 1994 in the Khibina alkaline complex in Kola Peninsula, Russia. It is named after the Russian mineralogist, Professor Anatoly Y. Feldsitas, in recognition of his contributions to the study of alkaline rocks and minerals.

Feldsitasit is characterized by its unique chemical composition, which includes significant amounts of niobium (Nb) and tantalum (Ta) in the crystal structure. This results in its distinctive physical properties, such as its high density and its ability to exhibit pleochroism, a property where the mineral displays different colors when viewed from different angles.
