featureshandwriting
Featureshandwriting is a field and process focused on extracting and exploiting descriptive attributes, or features, from handwriting data to support analysis, recognition, or authentication. The term covers geometric features of the handwriting shapes (such as baseline alignment, letter height, slant, stroke curvature, loops, and spacing) as well as dynamic features collected during writing (pen pressure, velocity, acceleration, stroke duration) and texture or temporal features derived from image sequences or pen traces.
Data sources include scanned handwriting samples, digital handwriting tablets, stylus-enabled devices, and motion capture of writing
Typical applications include handwriting recognition systems that convert handwritten input to text, writer identification and verification,
Challenges include substantial intra-writer variability and inter-writer similarity, variations due to writing instrument, paper, writing speed,
Related topics include handwriting recognition, biometrics and writer identification, feature extraction, and digital forensics. Ongoing developments
