fastum

Fastum is a brand name used for topical ketoprofen preparations, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is marketed in gel, cream, and spray formulations and is used for short-term relief of pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal conditions such as sprains, strains, contusions, and osteoarthritis.

Ketoprofen inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis, providing analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. When applied topically, it concentrates its action at the site of application and has lower systemic exposure than oral NSAIDs. Typical products apply to the affected area two to three times daily.

Indications and precautions: For adults and, in some jurisdictions, adolescents; do not use on broken skin or mucous membranes, near eyes, or with other NSAIDs unless advised. Not recommended in people with known NSAID hypersensitivity, active GI ulcers or bleeding, severe kidney or liver disease, or in the third trimester of pregnancy; use during breastfeeding should be discussed with a clinician.

Adverse effects: Most common are local reactions at the application site, such as itching, redness, or rash. Rare systemic NSAID effects may occur. Interactions: concurrent use with other NSAIDs or anticoagulants may increase risks; monitor for signs of bleeding or GI irritation.

Availability: Fastum products are marketed in multiple countries under various regulatory approvals. Fastum Gel typically contains ketoprofen 2.5% w/w; other formulations exist in some markets.
