A farveskærm, or color display, is an electronic visual display that shows images by applying power to a matrix of pixels. Each pixel is capable of displaying a range of colors. Modern farveskærme are ubiquitous, found in everything from smartphones and televisions to computer monitors and car dashboards.

The technology behind farveskærme has evolved significantly. Early color displays often relied on cathode ray tubes (CRTs), which used electron beams to illuminate phosphors on a glass screen. Today, the dominant technologies are liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). LCDs use a backlight and liquid crystals to control which colors are visible through a filter, while OLEDs use organic compounds that emit light when an electric current is passed through them, offering superior contrast and faster response times.

The ability to display color is crucial for conveying information effectively and enhancing user experience. Different color models, such as RGB (Red, Green, Blue) and CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black), are used to define and reproduce colors on these displays. The quality of a farveskærm is often judged by its resolution, color accuracy, brightness, contrast ratio, and refresh rate. These factors collectively determine how vibrant, sharp, and smooth the displayed images appear.
