The fakulte is responsible for offering bachelor, master, and doctoral programs in its fields, with teaching and research coordinated within the university’s broader governance. In some systems, professional programs (such as medicine or law) may be housed within a fakulte and have specific accreditation requirements; in others, degrees may be awarded by the university as a whole.

Terminology and structure vary by country. In many European and Turkish contexts, fakulte is equivalent to the US term “college” or “school” within a university, while the word “faculty” in English can refer to the teaching staff or to a broader division depending on the country. Examples of fakulte include the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Medicine.
