Förprodukt is a term used in Swedish manufacturing and logistics to describe a product that has undergone some processing but is not yet a finished item. It denotes an intermediate or semi-finished product that serves as an input to further processing or assembly in the production chain.

Anförandet of förprodukter can occur at various stages, depending on the process. Examples include a metal blank that has been cut but not yet shaped, a circuit board after fabrication but before final assembly, or a partially baked dough base awaiting final proofing and baking. In food production, semiprepared sauces or pre-cooked components may also be classified as förprodukter. The exact definition is often aligned with a company’s bill of materials and production routing.

In cost accounting and inventory management, förprodukter are typically treated as work-in-progress (WIP). They carry material costs and conversion costs incurred during processing and are valued until they are completed into final products. This classification supports production planning, capacity assessment, and lead-time calculations.

A related concept is halvfabrikat, a synonym commonly used in everyday Swedish for semi-finished goods, though regional or industry-specific terminology may vary. Förprodukter are distinguished from råvaror (raw materials), which have not yet undergone processing, and slutförbrukade eller färdiga produkter (final products), which are ready for sale.

Quality control often applies at the förprodukt stage to ensure specifications are met before proceeding to subsequent production steps.
