The concept envisions creating continuous, solid profiles by forcing a material through a shaping die while actively varying the cross-sectional geometry along the extrusion axis, effectively encoding variations in thickness or shape into a single continuous piece. The name combines extrusion with the idea of movement along the z-axis, signaling a focus on axial variation of the profile.

Process concept: The technique would require real-time control of temperature, rheology, and cooling as the material exits the die. By modulating die geometry, feed temperature, and draw-down forces, the extruded stream could be stabilized into nonconstant cross-sections without post-processing. The concept draws on principles from polymer processing, rheology, and continuous manufacturing, but it remains theoretical rather than established.
