Exposure adjusted refers to the modification of the brightness and tonal range of an image or video after it has been captured or during its capture. It is used to correct images that are too dark or too bright, as well as to achieve a desired artistic effect by altering how details appear in shadows and highlights.

In practice, exposure adjustment can occur at two stages. During capture, photographers use exposure compensation, adjusting parameters such as aperture, shutter speed, or ISO to increase or decrease the amount of light reaching the sensor. In post-processing, editors adjust exposure through tools that modify the overall brightness, the exposure value (EV), or tonal curves, often in combination with contrast, highlights, and shadows controls. Raw file formats typically offer more flexibility for these adjustments than JPEGs because they preserve more image data.

There are important considerations when adjusting exposure. Overdoing it can cause clipping in the brightest or darkest areas, resulting in loss of detail and color shifts. Increasing exposure can introduce noise in darker regions and alter white balance if not managed carefully. When editing, photographers may prefer working with RAW files to preserve detail and flexibility, though final outputs for display may require color management and gamma correction.

Exposure adjusted images are common in photography, videography, and digital imaging, used to standardize exposure across a sequence, recover visibility in underexposed scenes, or create a consistent aesthetic across a project.
