Exploitabele is a term used in cybersecurity to describe security weaknesses or flaws that can be leveraged by an attacker under certain conditions to harm a system, disclose information, or gain unauthorized access. In this sense, exploitability refers to the practical ability to exploit a vulnerability, not merely its existence. A vulnerability may be theoretically exploitable but effectively difficult to exploit due to mitigations, environment, or lack of access.

Whether a vulnerability is considered exploitable depends on several factors, including the access vector (remote or local), the level of authentication required, whether user interaction is needed, the complexity of the exploit, and the potential impact on confidentiality, integrity, or availability. The presence of deployed defenses such as input validation, least privilege, patching, and network segmentation can reduce exploitability even if a flaw exists. Vulnerability scoring systems, such as the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS), include metrics related to exploitability to help prioritize remediation.

In practice, security teams assess exploitability during vulnerability management processes, prioritize patches or mitigations, and implement defenses to reduce exposure. Patches, configuration hardening, code fixes, and architectural changes aim to lower the likelihood of successful exploitation. Zero-day exploits, where no patch is available, illustrate the highest challenge to exploitability, while well-documented, unpatched flaws may present ongoing risk.
