Evangelios is the plural form of evangelio in Spanish and Portuguese, meaning gospel. In Christian usage, Evangelios refers to the four canonical gospels of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. They recount the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth and serve as the primary sources for the life of Jesus. The term also denotes the broader tradition of Christian gospel writings and the proclamation of the good news of Jesus.

The gospels were written in Greek in the first century CE. Most scholars view Mark as the earliest gospel, with Matthew and Luke drawing on Mark and a hypothetical source called Q, as well as other material. John is generally regarded as distinct in style and theology.
