Etyencarbonat, also known as ethylene carbonate (EC), is an organic compound with the formula C3H4O3. It is a cyclic carbonate ester. Ethylene carbonate is a colorless, odorless solid at room temperature, but it melts at 36 °C (97 °F) to form a clear, viscous liquid. It is highly polar and miscible with water, alcohols, and many organic solvents.

The compound is typically synthesized by the reaction of ethylene oxide with carbon dioxide. This reaction is often carried out under pressure and in the presence of a catalyst. Ethylene carbonate has a high dielectric constant, which makes it a useful solvent in various electrochemical applications.

One of the most significant uses of ethylene carbonate is as a component in electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries. Its high dielectric constant and ability to dissolve lithium salts contribute to efficient ion transport, enabling battery performance.
