etikkahaposta
Etikkahaposta refers to acetic acid, the simple carboxylic acid with the formula CH3CO2H. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature, with a characteristic vinegar-like odor. It is a weak acid (pKa ≈ 4.76) and is completely miscible with water, ethanol, and many organic solvents. Concentrated solutions, called glacial acetic acid, are about 99–100% pure.
Industrial production of etikkahaposta occurs mainly by carbonylation of methanol, via the Monsanto or Cativa processes,
In food applications, acetic acid provides the acidity of vinegar, acts as a preservative, and influences flavor.
Safety and handling: etikkahaposta is corrosive and can cause severe irritation and burns to skin and eyes.
