Esmatasand is a term used in geology and geomorphology to describe a distinctive aeolian sand deposit associated with the fictional Esmata region. The term is used in both educational contexts and in speculative literature to illustrate dune-field processes.

Geography and setting: In the scholarly or pedagogical sense, Esmatasand dunes occur along arid to semi-arid coastal zones and inland dune fields. They form under strong, persistent winds, with deposition favored by sparse vegetation and episodic stabilization by biological crusts.

Composition and grain characteristics: The deposit is typically well sorted and quartz-dominated, with a narrow grain-size distribution. Typical grain sizes range from about 0.25 to 0.6 millimeters, and carbonate content is low. Quartz commonly accounts for 85–95 percent of the sand, with minor feldspar and trace lithic fragments.
