Eskatologiaan is a Finnish term that translates to "eschatology" in English. Eschatology is a branch of theology and philosophy concerned with the final events of history, or the ultimate destiny of humanity and the world. It often deals with concepts such as the end of the world, the last judgment, the resurrection of the dead, the afterlife, and the establishment of a new heaven and a new earth.

Different religions and belief systems have their own distinct eschatological narratives. In Christianity, eschatology is heavily influenced by the Book of Revelation, discussing the second coming of Jesus Christ, the tribulation, and the millennial reign. Judaism's eschatology includes the coming of the Messiah, the resurrection, and the Messianic Age. Islam's eschatology describes the Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah), the resurrection, paradise (Jannah), and hell (Jahannam).

Beyond Abrahamic religions, other traditions also possess eschatological beliefs. Some interpretations of Hinduism speak of cyclical time and the eventual dissolution and recreation of the universe. Buddhism, while not focused on a singular end-time event in the same way, discusses the ultimate liberation from the cycle of rebirth (samsara) through Nirvana.

The study of eskatologiaan, or eschatology, can also extend to secular philosophical ideas about the future of humanity and the planet, such as existential risks or the potential for transhumanist futures. It addresses fundamental human questions about meaning, purpose, and what lies beyond our current existence.
