Etymology and related forms. Escenari derives from the Latin scaena meaning stage, with intermediaries through Romance languages, including the Spanish escenario and the Italian scenario, from which the Catalan form inherits the -ari suffix. The term shares a family with escenografia (set design) and escenògraf (scenic designer), which relate to the production and visual construction of a stage.

Usage and examples. In theatre and live events, escenari denotes the performance space itself: "L'escenari del teatre és relativament ampli."
