epidosite
Epidosite is a metamorphic rock characterized by its prominent epidote mineral content. Epidote is a sorosilicate mineral with the chemical formula Ca2(Al,Fe)3(SiO4)3(SiO2)O(OH). It typically forms in a range of green hues, from yellowish-green to a dark, almost black green, depending on the iron content. The formation of epidosite occurs under low to medium-grade metamorphic conditions, often associated with the metamorphism of mafic igneous rocks like basalt, or calcareous sedimentary rocks. These rocks undergo alteration through hydrothermal processes where existing minerals break down and reform into epidote, along with other common metamorphic minerals such as quartz, feldspar, chlorite, and actinolite.
The physical appearance of epidosite is often granular or massive, though it can also exhibit a schistose
