Epebetegség refers to a range of conditions affecting the gallbladder and bile ducts. The gallbladder is a small organ located beneath the liver that stores and releases bile, a fluid produced by the liver that aids in digestion, particularly of fats. Bile travels from the gallbladder through the bile ducts to the small intestine.

Common epebetegség includes gallstones, which are hardened deposits of digestive fluid that can form in the gallbladder. These stones can cause pain, especially after eating fatty foods, and may lead to complications if they block the bile ducts. Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder, often caused by gallstones blocking the cystic duct. Symptoms can include severe abdominal pain, fever, and nausea.

Other conditions include cholangitis, an infection of the bile ducts, which is a serious condition requiring prompt medical attention. Bile duct stones, which form in the ducts themselves or migrate from the gallbladder, can also cause blockages and jaundice, a yellowing of the skin and eyes due to a buildup of bilirubin. Less common epebetegség includes gallbladder polyps, which are growths on the gallbladder wall, and gallbladder cancer, a rare but aggressive malignancy.

Diagnosis of epebetegség often involves medical history, physical examination, and imaging tests such as ultrasound, CT scans, or MRI. Treatment options vary depending on the specific condition and its severity, ranging from lifestyle changes and medication to surgical procedures like cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal).
