Nuclear energy, which was previously taxed at a higher rate, is taxed at a significantly lower rate. Fossil fuel-based electricity is taxed at a higher rate than fossil fuel-based heating, to promote the use of electricity for heating purposes. This encourages the use of off-peak electricity, when it is often cheaper, which can reduce the strain on the power grid during peak hours.
