Energi spektrumet, often referred to as the electromagnetic spectrum, is the range of all types of electromagnetic radiation. These radiations are characterized by their wavelengths and frequencies. They travel at the speed of light and carry energy. The spectrum is divided into different regions based on these properties.

Starting with the lowest energy and longest wavelengths, we have radio waves. These are used in broadcasting, communication, and radar. Moving to higher energies and shorter wavelengths are microwaves, used in cooking, telecommunications, and satellite communication. Infrared radiation follows, perceived as heat and used in thermal imaging and remote controls.

Visible light, the portion of the spectrum detectable by the human eye, comes next. It ranges from red (longest wavelength) to violet (shortest wavelength). Beyond visible light are ultraviolet (UV) rays, which can cause sunburn and are used in sterilization. X-rays have even shorter wavelengths and higher energies, enabling them to penetrate soft tissues, making them useful in medical imaging.

At the highest energy and shortest wavelength end of the spectrum are gamma rays, produced by nuclear reactions and radioactive decay. They are highly penetrating and used in medical treatments like radiation therapy. The entire energi spektrumet encompasses all these forms of radiation, forming a continuous range from very long, low-energy waves to very short, high-energy rays.
