Endoteliaalseks refers to the state of being endothelial. The endothelium is a type of thin, flat cell layer that lines the interior surface of blood vessels and lymphatic vessels, as well as the inner surface of the heart. It is a crucial component of the circulatory system, playing a vital role in maintaining vascular health and regulating various physiological processes.

Endothelial cells are not merely passive structural elements. They are metabolically active and perform a multitude of functions. These include regulating blood pressure by producing substances that cause vasodilation and vasoconstriction, controlling the passage of molecules and cells between the blood and the surrounding tissues, and participating in blood clotting and inflammation.
