Endoszkópok, or endoscopes, are medical instruments used to visualize the interior of a hollow organ or cavity within the body. They typically consist of a long, flexible or rigid tube with a light source and a camera or lens at the tip. This allows medical professionals to examine internal structures non-surgically.

The primary function of an endoscope is diagnostic. By inserting the instrument through a natural opening (like the mouth, anus, or urethra) or a small surgical incision, doctors can directly observe tissues, identify abnormalities, and even collect samples for biopsy. This minimally invasive approach significantly reduces patient recovery time and discomfort compared to traditional surgery.

Endoscopy has a wide range of applications. Common examples include gastroscopy to examine the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum; colonoscopy to inspect the large intestine; bronchoscopy to view the airways; and laparoscopy, which uses a small incision to access the abdominal cavity. Specialized endoscopes exist for nearly every part of the body.

Beyond diagnosis, endoscopes are increasingly used for therapeutic procedures. For instance, polyps can be removed during a colonoscopy, or bleeding ulcers can be treated through the endoscope itself. The development of high-definition cameras and advanced imaging techniques has further enhanced the diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities of these essential medical tools.
