Eliminationsvägarna, commonly referred to as excretion pathways, are the biological routes by which waste products and foreign substances are removed from the body. The primary excretory organs in mammals, including humans, are the kidneys, lungs, skin, and intestines.

The kidneys are central to the urinary system, filtering blood to remove metabolic wastes like urea, excess salts, and water, forming urine. This urine is then transported through the ureters to the bladder for storage and eventually expelled from the body via the urethra.

The lungs play a crucial role in eliminating gaseous waste products, most notably carbon dioxide, a byproduct of cellular respiration. Exhalation expels this gas from the bloodstream into the atmosphere.

The skin excretes waste through sweat glands. Sweat, primarily composed of water and salts, also contains small amounts of urea and other metabolic byproducts. While its primary function is thermoregulation, it contributes to waste removal.

The intestines, specifically the large intestine, are responsible for eliminating undigested food material and cellular debris as feces. Bile pigments, which are breakdown products of red blood cells, are also eliminated through the feces.
