eliminaatiokykyyn

Eliminaatiokykyyn is the illative form of the Finnish noun eliminaatiokyky, and in grammar it is used to talk about the elimination capacity in a context that expresses direction or extent toward that capacity. In a technical sense, eliminaatiokykyyn refers to the elimination capacity of a treatment system for pollutants, most often in air pollution control such as biofilters, scrubbers, or activated carbon beds.

In environmental engineering, elimination capacity (EC) is the maximum rate at which a unit volume of treatment medium can remove a pollutant from a gas stream under specified conditions. It is commonly defined quantitatively as EC = Q × (Cin − Cout) / V, where Q is the volumetric gas flow rate, Cin and Cout are the inlet and outlet pollutant concentrations, and V is the bed or reactor volume. The resulting units are typically g m−3 h−1 (or mg m−3 h−1), reflecting mass removed per unit volume per unit time. EC provides a performance metric that helps compare systems and assess how changes in operating conditions affect removal.

Factors influencing eliminaatiokykyyn (elimination capacity) include pollutant properties (volatility, reactivity), inlet concentration, gas velocity, residence time, moisture and temperature, and the activity of the treatment medium (biological, chemical, or adsorptive processes). A high EC does not always imply high removal efficiency if inlet concentrations are low or contact time is insufficient.
