Elektrivastavus is the Finnish term for electrical resistance. It is a fundamental property of an electrical conductor that opposes the flow of electric current. The amount of resistance depends on the material's properties, its length, and its cross-sectional area. Higher resistance means more opposition to current flow, resulting in a lower current for a given voltage.

The unit of electrical resistance is the ohm, symbolized by the Greek letter Omega (Ω). This relationship is described by Ohm's Law, which states that voltage (V) is equal to current (I) multiplied by resistance (R), or V = IR. Therefore, resistance can be calculated as R = V/I. Different materials have different intrinsic resistivities, which are a measure of how strongly they resist electric current. For example, metals like copper and silver have very low resistivity and are good conductors, while materials like rubber and glass have very high resistivity and are good insulators. Temperature also affects resistance; for most conductors, resistance increases with increasing temperature.
