Elastinkudos is found in various parts of the body where elasticity is essential. It is a major component of the walls of large arteries, such as the aorta, enabling them to expand and contract with each heartbeat, thus maintaining blood pressure. In the lungs, elastinkudos allows for the expansion and contraction of alveoli during breathing. It is also present in the vocal cords, facilitating sound production, and in the skin, contributing to its resilience and ability to return to its smooth state after being pinched or stretched. Ligaments, which connect bones to bones, also contain significant amounts of elastinkudos, providing flexibility to joints. The degradation or loss of elastin can lead to reduced tissue elasticity, contributing to conditions like atherosclerosis or wrinkled skin.
