eIDASrammeverket

The eIDASrammeverket refers to the European Union framework established by Regulation (EU) 910/2014 on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market. It aims to enable cross-border recognition of electronic identification (eID) and to secure electronic trust services across the EU.

The framework comprises two main pillars: electronic identification, which enables citizens and businesses to prove their identity online in other member states, and trust services, which cover electronic signatures, seals, time-stamps, electronic registered delivery, and website authentication. Qualified Trust Service Providers (QTSPs) operate under common rules, with oversight by national supervisory authorities.

Cross-border interoperability is achieved through notifying national eID schemes to the European Commission, and through the EU Trusted List (EUTL) listing notified eID schemes and trust service providers. The eIDAS Node and technical standards underpin interoperability, allowing competent authorities to access eID and trust services across borders.

The regulation also establishes governance, requirements for assurance levels, and the concept of qualified trust services. For eID, member states recognize cross-border eID under notification of their schemes. Trust services offer legal equivalence of electronic signatures and related services within the internal market, with higher assurance for qualified services.

Implications include enabling seamless cross-border online public services, reducing administrative barriers, while maintaining privacy and data protection in line with GDPR. The framework continues to evolve with updates and related acts.
