Driverstørrelse refers to the diameter of the speaker driver, typically measured in inches or millimeters. Speaker drivers are the electro-acoustic transducers that convert electrical signals into sound waves. The size of a driver is a significant factor in its performance, influencing aspects like frequency response and sound pressure level.

Larger drivers generally have a greater capacity to move more air, which is crucial for reproducing lower frequencies (bass). This is because larger cones or diaphragms can displace a larger volume of air with each excursion. Therefore, subwoofers and woofers, designed to produce deep bass, are usually equipped with larger drivers, often exceeding 10 inches in diameter.

Smaller drivers, on the other hand, are typically found in tweeters and mid-range speakers. Tweeters handle high frequencies and require smaller, lighter diaphragms to accurately reproduce rapid sound wave vibrations. Mid-range drivers are designed for the frequencies between bass and treble, and their size will vary depending on the overall speaker design and intended frequency range.

However, driver size is not the sole determinant of a speaker's sound quality. The material of the cone or diaphragm, the design of the suspension, the motor structure (magnet and voice coil), and the overall enclosure design all play vital roles. A well-designed smaller driver can sometimes outperform a poorly designed larger one. Nevertheless, driver size remains a fundamental specification that influences a speaker's potential for producing a wide range of frequencies and output levels.
