dorulardr

dorulardr is an open‑source research database built to centralize scientific datasets across multiple disciplines. Launched in 2021 by a consortium of university research groups, the platform is designed to provide a unified query interface for data previously dispersed in proprietary repositories. It supports structured metadata, standardized data formats, and automated provenance tracking, aiming to reduce duplication and enhance reproducibility.

The core engine is written in Python and uses PostgreSQL for metadata storage, with data files hosted on an S3-compatible object store. A RESTful API enables programmatic access, while a web UI offers search, filter, and visualization tools. Users may upload new datasets through a web form or programmatically via the API, subject to a review workflow that verifies metadata completeness and licensing compliance. All datasets are released under a CC0 public domain waiver unless original contributors request a different license.

The project hosts a public GitHub repository, and the community has grown to include over 120 contributors from more than 30 countries. Community discussion occurs via Discord, a quarterly virtual conference, and a bi‑annual workshop that focuses on data curation best practices. Funding is sourced from institutional grants, sponsorships, and community donations. The project follows the Open Code Initiative, providing clear licensing for the software and documenting the governance model.
