Dispersevärit are a class of synthetic dyes that are sparingly soluble in water. This characteristic makes them particularly suitable for dyeing hydrophobic synthetic fibers such as polyester, acetate, and nylon. The dyeing process typically involves dispersing the finely ground dye particles in water, often with the aid of dispersing agents, to create a stable suspension. This suspension is then heated, allowing the dye molecules to penetrate the fiber structure.

The application of disperse dyes is usually carried out at elevated temperatures, often between 100°C and 130°C, or under pressure to achieve adequate diffusion into the fiber. The small molecular size and non-ionic nature of disperse dyes are key to their ability to enter and remain within the tightly packed structure of synthetic fibers. Once inside the fiber, the dye molecules are held by weak van der Waals forces and hydrogen bonds.

Disperse dyes offer a wide range of colors and generally exhibit good fastness properties, including resistance to washing, light, and sublimation. Their development was a significant advancement in textile dyeing, enabling the vibrant and durable coloration of widely used synthetic materials.
