One diopter corresponds to a focal length of one meter; a lens with a focal length of 0.5 meters has 2.0 diopters of power, while a lens with a focal length of 2 meters has 0.5 diopters. This simple relationship links the physical properties of lenses to their corrective or focusing effects.
