Diastoleen is a term used in cardiovascular physiology. It refers to the phase of the heartbeat when the heart muscle relaxes and the heart chambers fill with blood. Specifically, it is the period when the atria and ventricles are in a relaxed state. This relaxation allows the chambers to expand and receive blood returning from the body and lungs.

The cardiac cycle consists of two main phases: systole and diastole. Systole is the contraction phase, where the heart pumps blood out, while diastole is the relaxation and filling phase. During diastole, the atrioventricular valves (mitral and tricuspid valves) are open, allowing blood to flow from the atria into the ventricles. The semilunar valves (aortic and pulmonary valves) are closed during diastole, preventing blood from flowing back into the ventricles from the arteries.

The duration of diastole is important for efficient heart function. If diastole is too short, the ventricles may not have enough time to fill completely with blood, which can lead to a reduced stroke volume and a decrease in the amount of blood pumped by the heart with each beat. This can affect overall cardiac output.

Blood pressure measurements often reflect both systolic and diastolic pressures. Diastolic blood pressure is the minimum pressure in the arteries when the heart is at rest between beats. It indicates the pressure in the arteries during the relaxation phase of the cardiac cycle.
