Dialectatlassen, often translated as dialect atlases, are comprehensive collections of linguistic maps illustrating the geographical distribution of specific dialectal features within a language. The creation of a dialect atlas typically involves extensive fieldwork. Researchers gather data from numerous locations, often through surveys and interviews with native speakers. This data captures various linguistic phenomena, such as pronunciation differences (phonetics and phonology), word choices (lexicon), and grammatical structures (morphology and syntax).
