Detyrosinilaatiot, in Finnish, refers to the process of detyrosination. This is a specific post-translational modification that occurs in certain proteins, most notably in actin. Actin is a crucial protein involved in muscle contraction, cell shape, and intracellular transport. In its unmodified form, actin contains a tyrosine residue at its C-terminus. Detyrosination is the removal of this terminal tyrosine residue.

This modification is carried out by a specific enzyme called tyrosinase. The removal of the tyrosine is not a permanent event.
