destinatario

Destinatario is a term used in several Romance languages, notably Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese, to denote the person or entity to whom something is addressed or delivered. Etymologically, it derives from Latin destinatus and destinare, meaning the one for whom something is destined or designated.

In postal and delivery contexts, the destinatario is the recipient of a letter, parcel, or other item—the person whose name appears on the address and who is entitled to receive it. In electronic communication, the term appears in reference to the field that indicates the intended recipient of a message; in Spanish interfaces this field is labeled destinatario, and similar usage occurs in Italian and Portuguese variants.

Beyond physical mail, destinatario is used in legal and administrative settings to refer to the party to whom a notice, decision, or document is addressed. In data protection and privacy law, it can denote a person or organization that receives personal data, for example a destinatario de datos in transfers between entities.

Linguistic notes: the term is masculine in most contexts, with feminine forms such as destinataria in Spanish and Italian, and destinatária in Portuguese. Plural forms follow gender and language: destinatarios or destinatarias in Spanish, destinatari or destinatarias in Italian, and destinatários or destinatárias in Portuguese. The counterpart in many languages is the sender (remitente in Spanish, mittente in Italian).
