A desiccantpåse, often referred to as a desiccant sachet or silica gel packet, is a small bag containing a drying agent. Its primary purpose is to absorb and retain moisture from the surrounding environment, thereby protecting goods from damage caused by humidity. The most common desiccant material found in these pouches is silica gel, which is a porous form of silicon dioxide. Other desiccants include activated alumina, molecular sieves, and calcium chloride.

These small packets are ubiquitous and are frequently found inside packaging for electronics, leather goods, pharmaceuticals, food products, and various other items that can be compromised by moisture. By reducing humidity levels within the packaging, desiccants prevent issues such as corrosion, mold growth, spoilage, and degradation of materials. The effectiveness of a desiccantpåse depends on its size, the type and amount of desiccant material it contains, and the relative humidity of the environment.

Desiccantpåsar are typically made of permeable materials like Tyvek or paper, allowing moisture vapor to pass through and be absorbed by the desiccant. Once saturated, the desiccant material can no longer absorb moisture and the packet becomes ineffective. Some desiccants are rechargeable; they can be dried out by heating, allowing them to be reused. The disposal of desiccantpåsar should be done responsibly, as some desiccant materials may not be environmentally friendly if not disposed of properly.
