Denaturovaný refers to a substance that has undergone denaturation, a process that alters its natural three-dimensional structure. This alteration typically happens to proteins, but can also affect other complex molecules like nucleic acids. Denaturation is not a chemical breakdown; the primary structure, or the sequence of amino acids in a protein, remains intact. Instead, the weak bonds that hold the secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structures together are disrupted.

Common causes of denaturation include heat, extreme pH levels, mechanical agitation, and exposure to certain chemicals. For example, cooking an egg causes the proteins in the egg white to denature, changing its liquid state to a solid. Similarly, changes in pH can disrupt the ionic bonds within a protein.

Denatured substances often lose their original biological function. For proteins, this means enzymes lose their catalytic activity, and structural proteins may no longer perform their intended roles. While denaturation can be irreversible, in some cases, the molecule can refold into its original structure if the denaturing agent is removed and conditions are favorable, a process known as renaturation. The term "denaturovaný" is the Czech word for denatured.
